Building a Question Bank from Multiple PDFs (Question + Answer Key)
Many source materials split questions and answers into two separate PDFs. Here's how to combine them into one correctly matched question bank.
A common source-material split
It's common for practice material to ship as two separate files — a question paper PDF, and a separate answer key or solutions PDF, sometimes even from different sources entirely. Building a usable question bank means correctly matching each answer back to its question, which is easy to get wrong at any real volume if it's done by hand.
How automatic matching works
Test Formater accepts a second PDF specifically for this — upload the question paper as usual, and add the answer-key document alongside it. Matching happens primarily by question number ("1.", "Q1", "(1)", whatever numbering convention the source uses), and falls back to matching by document order when numbers are missing or inconsistent between the two files.
What ends up in the final export
Once matched, the answer and any accompanying explanation get folded into the same question entry as the question and options — a single self-contained record per question in the exported file, not two separate documents you still have to cross-reference by hand. If a question's answer genuinely isn't present in either document, it's solved by AI instead (when that option is turned on) rather than being left as a permanent gap.
