How to use Formatly
Both tools follow the same shape — upload a PDF, choose a couple of options, and get a finished file back. Here's exactly what happens at each step.
Doc Export — converting a PDF into another format
Doc Export is for when you already have the content you need — a textbook chapter, a worksheet, a scanned handout — and just want it in a different, editable format. It's a single-file-in, multiple-files-out tool: one PDF, up to six output formats at once.
Upload a PDF
Drop in any PDF containing math, tables or plain text. Scanned pages work too — the OCR step reads the page images, not just embedded text.
Pick your formats
Choose one or more of MMD, plain Markdown, DOCX, LaTeX, HTML or JSON. Selecting more than one doesn't cost more — the 5-coin charge covers the whole conversion, however many formats you selected.
Convert & download
The page polls conversion progress live. Once it's done, preview any text-based format right in the browser, download formats individually, or grab everything at once with Export All, which zips every selected format together. Costs 5 coins per conversion, charged only once the conversion succeeds.
Test Formater — turning questions into a bulk-upload file
Test Formater is built for a different job: you have a PDF full of objective questions — multiple choice, integer answers, true/false, fill-in-the-blanks, or comprehension passages — and you need a bordered-table .docxthat a test app can bulk-import. AI reads every question, structures it, and fills in the answer or solution if one isn't already written down in the source PDF.
Upload the question PDF
Optionally add a second PDF containing just the answer key or solutions, if that's kept separate from the questions in your source material. AI matches each answer back to its question by number, falling back to document order if numbers are missing.
Choose Appx or Classplus
Pick the table layout your bulk-upload target expects. See the export formats guide for exactly how the two layouts differ, row by row.
Generate the .docx
AI structures every question into the chosen layout. With "Solve missing answers & solutions with AI" turned on (the default), it solves anything the source PDF doesn't already answer; turned off, those questions are skipped and the download tells you how many. Costs 1 coin per question found — charged only after extraction finishes, so you're billed for exactly what you got, not a flat guess.
