How credits work
Every conversion in Formatly is paid for out of a coin wallet, not a subscription. Here's exactly how the balance moves.
50
free coins on signup — no card required. A Postgres trigger creates your wallet and logs the bonus the moment your account exists.
5 / 1
coins per Doc Export conversion, or per question for Test Formater. You're only charged once a conversion actually succeeds — a failed upload or a PDF with no readable questions never costs you anything.
0
coins for re-downloading a file — everything you generate is saved under My Downloads, so losing the original download doesn't mean paying again.
Why two different pricing models?
Doc Export does a fixed amount of work regardless of the PDF — Mathpix converts the whole document in one pass, so a flat 5-coin fee matches the flat cost of that pass. Test Formater is different: a two-question worksheet and a 100-question paper take very different amounts of AI work to structure, so charging per question keeps the price proportional to what you actually get — and you're only billed after extraction finishes and the question count is known, never a guess upfront.
Where to check your balance
The Wallet page shows your current balance and a full transaction history — every bonus, charge, admin adjustment, and plan purchase, newest first. Running low? Head to Buy Coins — see the pricing guide for how the plans themselves work.
